Grab a still: download a frame or the thumbnail

A full-resolution still of any frame, without opening an edit suite or taking a screenshot of your own player.

You need a still for a treatment, a thumbnail for a post, a frame to send a colourist. The old answer was to screenshot your own player and live with a soft, half-resolution image of whatever quality the page happened to be streaming. Two controls on the asset page do it properly.

Download Frame: the frame you are looking at

Scrub the player to the exact frame you want and click Download Frame, under the player beside Set Thumbnail. You get a PNG of that frame, named for the asset and the timecode, so Long Live Summer @ 00-01-11.png files itself sensibly the moment it lands.

The important part is where it comes from. The still is cut from the original file you uploaded, not from the copy playing in the page. A 4K master gives you a genuine 4K still even though the player was showing you something smaller to keep playback smooth. A screenshot could never do that.

PNG rather than JPEG, so the frame is not squeezed a second time on the way out. Drop it straight into a deck or a treatment.

Thumbnail: the poster, at full size

In the header beside Download, Thumbnail gives you the asset's poster image: the frame that fronts the clip in your project, on review links, and in reels.

Where the frame is known, this comes through at full resolution too, rebuilt from your original rather than handed to you as the small display copy. Thumbnails you set from now on record their frame, so they always download at full size. Older ones may come through at display size, since there is no recorded point to go back to. Setting the thumbnail again fixes that permanently.

Which one you want

Reach for Download Frame when the image matters more than the moment: a specific expression, a composition, the frame you would have chosen in a grade.

Reach for Thumbnail when you want the frame that already represents this clip everywhere, so a deck and the review link your client opens are showing the same image.

If the poster is not the frame you would have picked, scrub to a better one and use Set Thumbnail first, then download it. Then the still and the clip's public face are the same picture.

A note on long clips

A still is cut on demand rather than kept lying around, so a frame deep inside a long master takes a moment to arrive. That is the file being read to the point you asked for. It is normal, and the wait scales with how far in the frame sits, not with how big the whole file is.
