Publish a cut for reviewers to browse

The one path that ever exposes a version to a client: a deliberate tick on the version, plus Show versions on the link.

Updated

Most updates should be quiet. Publishing is for the moment you want the client to see two cuts side by side and tell you which one works. It takes two switches, and both are deliberate.

Step 1: mark the version visible

Open Version History (from the asset page, or right-click the tile). Tick Visible to reviewers on the cut you want the client to browse. The first time you do this on an asset, HoldFast offers to also show the previous cut, so the reviewer has something to compare against. Say yes.

Open the review link's settings and enable Show versions. This is the audience gate: it is off by default, and without it, no version rail appears no matter what you marked visible. If the link's assets have no visible versions yet, HoldFast asks whether to show their current cuts rather than silently exposing anything.

What the reviewer gets

A rail listing your visible versions by filename, with the active one marked. One click switches the player to that version, its media and its own comments together. Compare puts two versions side by side with linked playback, covered in Compare two cuts side by side. The reviewer-side walkthrough, written for the person you sent the link to, is Browse other versions of the cut.

The guarantee underneath

Nothing is visible to a reviewer unless you ticked it. Every version starts hidden, including everything uploaded before versioning existed, and a quiet fix never flips either switch.

Questions

I turned on Show versions but the reviewer sees no rail. Why?

The rail appears only when the link has Show versions on AND at least one asset in it has a version marked Visible to reviewers. Flipping the link switch alone changes nothing, by design.

Which version do their new comments land on?

Whichever version they are watching when they comment. Every comment and approval is stamped with its version and shows a badge naming it, so feedback on EDIT 10 and EDIT 11 never blurs together.
