Run an Audience Fit test
Whether your target sees themselves in the work, scored as the share who say it felt made for someone like them.
Audience Fit is the shortest set in the library after Enjoyment, and it asks one of the sharpest questions in advertising: does this feel like it is for me?
What it measures
The primary question offers seven answers from "Definitely not" to "Definitely", and the verdict is decided on the share of people who picked one of the top two. A rate, not an average. The card labels this set as built from measurement principles rather than drawn from a specific body of research.
What people are asked
- "Did this feel like it was made for someone like you?" across those seven answers. This is the question the verdict rests on.
- "Who do you think this is for?" in their own words.
Two questions, and the second one frequently carries the finding. A group that does not feel spoken to will tell you exactly who they think you were talking to instead.
When to pick it
Pick this when the versions differ in who they signal to: casting, setting, vocabulary, music, the assumed level of knowledge. Skip it when you are running on a general panel rather than your real audience, because a broad room answering a fit question produces noise. If the question is whether the piece reads as native content rather than as advertising, that is Ad-vs-Organic Feel. If it is how you stand against the category, use Competitive Positioning.
What the verdict looks like
A winner on the fit rate is named when both groups reached the size committed at launch, dropout was balanced, and the gap stands clear of chance. Shares take more people to separate than averages, and a narrowed audience fills more slowly than a general one, so plan for both. See Choosing an audience and Understanding your verdict.
What it cannot tell you
Fit is relative to the room you tested in, so the score belongs to that audience and travels no further. It cannot tell you whether the people who feel spoken to will act, and it cannot tell you which element created the feeling: the design measures difference, not mechanism, so the open answers are where any explanation lives.
Formats
Audience Fit is available on video, audio, and image tests.
Questions
Can I run this on a general audience?
You can, but it will not mean much. The whole question is whether your target sees themselves in the work, so a general panel answers a question you did not ask. Target the audience to the people the piece is for, then read the result.
